How to apply

Can I apply for a credit card if I don’t have a Driver Licence, passport or a firearms licence?

If you don't have any of the documents listed below, you won't be able to complete the application form.

We accept the following types of Identification Document (ID):

  • New Zealand Passport
  • New Zealand Driver Licence
  • New Zealand Firearms Licence
  • Overseas Passport

Your ID must be current and valid. If you don't have any of these types of ID please phone us on 0800 801 808 for help.

Can I apply for a joint application with my partner?

No. If you want your partner to have a credit card that's linked to your account, you can apply for an additional card when you apply for your own credit card. You'll both share the same credit limit that will be approved for your card.

You can also apply for an additional card by logging into Warehouse Money Connect and completing the online form.

Once we've received your request for an additional card, we'll contact the Additional Cardholder to:

  • Confirm if they would like to receive a credit card that's linked to your account
  • Request additional personal information to complete the application
  • Request identification documents to verify their identity, and
  • Provide Credit Card Terms and Conditions
Can I apply for a Purple Visa Card and Warehouse Money Visa Card?

No. Currently you can only apply for one type of Credit Card with us.

If I change my mind about my credit card application, can I cancel it?

If you’d like to cancel your application, you can:

  • call us on 0800 801 808 or+64 9 212 5234, or
  • send us a letter at PO Box 9245, Newmarket, Auckland 1149, New Zealand to arrange this.
Can I include my partner's income in my application as additional income?

No, you can't include your partner's income. If your partner is the main earner, it's best for them to apply for the credit card instead.

In my application, can I list more than 3 sources of income?

No, we only accept up to 3 sources of income.   Most of your incomeshould come from your primary source. Your source of income must be legal and can be any one of the following:

  • Salary
  • Wage
  • Commission
  • Rental property
  • Interest/Dividends
  • Superannuation
  • Benefit
  • Profit (If you are self employed)
  • Child support
Can I save my application and complete it later?

No, you can’t save your application form. Before you start applying for a credit card, it’s best to make sure you have all the necessary information you’ll need nearby.

To apply for a credit card, you must be:

  • 18 years or older, and
  • a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident living in New Zealand, and
  • earning or receiving a regular income

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

  • A current and valid Passport or New Zealand Driver Licence – so we can verify who you are
  • Details of your income and regular expenses

Can my credit card be issued in the name that I go by (nickname)?

Unfortunately, the name of the card needs to match the legal name on your account.

I don't want people to know my first name, so can I change the name on my card to be my initials and surname?

How do I apply for a credit card?

Applying for a credit card is easy.   Choose the credit card that meets your needs and click the apply now button on the page.   You can also apply by calling us on 0800 801 808 and one of our customer experience team members will be happy to talk you through the application process.

To apply for a credit card, you must be:

  • 18 years or older, and
  • a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident living in New Zealand, and
  • earning or receiving a regular income
How do I apply to have an Additional Cardholder linked to my account?

Our credit cards provide the option of having additional cards linked to your account. It's a convenient way of ensuring family members have access to finance when they need it. An Additional Cardholder must be a family member and at least 18 years old.

If you'd like to have an Additional Cardholder, log into Warehouse Money Connect and complete the online form or call us on 0800 801 808. 

Once we've received your request for an additional card, we'll contact the Additional Cardholder to:

  • Confirm if they would like to receive a credit card that's linked to your account
  • Request additional personal information to complete the application
  • Request identification documents to verify their identify, and
  • Provide Credit Card Terms and Conditions

For your security, when you call we'll need to confirm your identity. You'll need to provide us information like your Customer Number or Account Number.   We'll also ask you for the answer to the security question that you set up when you applied for your credit card to help us confirm your identity.

How do I log in to Warehouse Money Connect for the first time?

You're already registered for Warehouse Money Connect.  All you'll need to do is set up a password.   Here's how you get started:

Step 1: Log into Warehouse Money Connect. The first time you log in, you’ll need to enter your customer number (located in the bottom left hand corner on the back of your credit card) and have  your mobile phone number handy. Follow the prompts on the screen which will guide you through the steps.

NB: Your mobile number should be the number you gave us when you applied for a credit card.   If your number has changed, you'll need to call us.

Step 2: You'll receive a Key Code via text message to your mobile phone, which you will be prompted to enter online. 

Step 3: You'll then be asked to set up a new password. Next time you log in, all you'll need is your customer number and your password. 

In order to protect your account and personal information you must not provide your password to anyone.   When you speak with us, we won't ask for your password.

Please note, Additional Cardholders won't have access to Warehouse Money Connect.  Additional Cardholders can call us to ask for information about the Card Account, if the information is about their Transactions, or Charges that relate to their Transactions.  They can also ask us what the account balance is.

How long does it take to apply for a credit card?

It should take you about 10 minutes to fill in the online application form. 

Here's what you'll need to get started:

How old does an Additional Cardholder have to be?

An Additional Cardholder must be at least 18 years old.

If I've been conditionally approved, what do I need to do to get fully approved?

We'll send you an email telling you what you need to do to get fully approved.  In most circumstances, you'll need to do one of the following:

1) Send us a document that shows your home address or take it to your nearest The Warehouse store.   These are the types of documents we'll accept: 

  • A bill from your water, power, gas, telephone, mobile or internet service provider
  • A council rates notice or valuation notice
  • A bank statement from a New Zealand bank
  • Any Insurance Policy
  • A letter from the Electoral Office
  • Any documentation from a Government agency which includes a unique reference ID
  • A letter from a Solicitor confirming your recent house purchase
  • A tenancy Agreement

2) Send us a certified Identification Document (ID).   These are the documents we'll accept:

  • NZ Passport 
  • NZ Driver Licence 
  • NZ Firearms Licence 
  • Overseas Passport
If my application is declined, when can I reapply?

If your application for a credit card was declined and you want to apply again, you're welcome to do so after 6 months and we'll access your application then.

I'm having trouble logging in to Warehouse Money Connect for the first time - what should I do?

If you're having difficulty logging in, check that the information you have entered is correct and meets the below criteria:

Customer number

  • 9 digits
  • Numbers only (no letters or special character)
  • Can be found on the back of your credit card

Key Code

  • You should have been sent a Key Code to your mobile number   - this will be sent to the mobile number you provide on your application
  • If you didn't provide us a mobile number or your number has changed since your application, you'll need to call us on 0800 801 808

  Password

  • You make up this password 
  • Needs to be a minimum of 8 characters and not have numbers and/or letters in consecutive order (e.g. 1234 or abcd).

Re-enter password

  • This must be identical to the password you have entered in the password field

Is there a fee I have to pay if I want to have an Additional Cardholder?

No, we’re all about value so there is no fee to have an Additional Cardholder on your account.

You and your Additional Cardholder will share the same credit limit that has been approved for your card.

An Additional Cardholder must be a family member and at least 18 years old.

My Identification Documents (ID) is expired, can I still use it for my application?

No. Your ID must be current.

What does it mean if my application is conditionally approved?

If your application is conditionally approved, it means that we've approved you for a credit card but can't complete your application because we cant verify your ID automatically. So we'll need to see or receive a document that shows your home address or receive a certified copy of your Identification Document (ID) or both before we can complete your application.

You will receive an email or a phone call (if you haven't provided us your email address) from us telling you what you need to complete your application and how to do this or you can call us on 0800 801 808.

An Additional Cardholder is a family member 18 years or older who can have a card that is linked to your account. 

They'll be issued with their own credit card.  The card will give them access to your card account, so they'll be able to use the card to make transactions (which you'll pay for).  You and the Additional Cardholder will share the same credit limit that has been approved for your card.

What is Warehouse Money Connect?

Warehouse Money Connectis a secure online service centre where you can easily access and manage your account.   You can do things like:

  • Activate and load a Personal Identification Number (PIN) on your credit card
  • Change the PIN on your card
  • Update your account details 
  • Request for an additional cardholder to be added to your account
  • View your transactions
  • View your statements.
When I apply for a credit card, will you ask for any other documentation?

We may require further documentation, we'll let you know what is required.

If I apply for a credit card, when should I expect to get a response back?

When you apply for a credit card, you'll get one of the following responses within 60 seconds:

  • Approved for a credit card, or
  • Approved on condition that we still need to verify your Identification Document and/or your home address, or
  • Referred to the Customer Experience Team for your application to be assessed further, or
  • Declined.
Who can apply for a credit card?

To apply for a credit card, you must be:

  • 18 years or older, and
  • a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident living in New Zealand, and
  • earning or receiving a regular income.
Who can certify my documents?

One of the following are acceptable to certify your documents:

  • Member of the Police
  • Justice of the Peace
  • Lawyer
  • Chartered Accountant
  • Deputy Registrar
Who can I have as an Additional Cardholder?

You can add a family member as an Additional Cardholder on your account, as long as they're at least 18 years old or older.

They'll be issued with their own credit card.  The card will give them access to your card account, so they'll be able to use the card to make transactions (which you'll pay for).  You and the Additional Cardholder will share the same credit limit that has been approved for your card. 

Additional Cardholders can ask us for information about the Card Account, if the information is about their Transactions, or Charges that relate to their Transactions.   They can also ask us what the account balance is.  

Additional Cardholders can also set and update their PIN but they must do it over the phone for security reasons. They can also cancel their own card at any time. 

If an Additional Cardholder needs a replacement card because theirs has been lost or damaged they should advise us directly so that we can try to prevent any unauthorised transactions. We will reissue a card for the Additional Cardholder unless their card is cancelled by you.

Who should I list as my dependents?

List any dependent under 18 years of age who you support financially.

Why do you need my Identification Document (ID)?

We need your ID so we can verify who you are (which the law requires us to do) and prevent people from obtaining a credit card fraudulently.

  • New Zealand Passport
  • New Zealand Driver Licence
  • New Zealand Firearms Licence
  • Overseas Passport
Why do you need to know my email address?

We need to know your email address as it's the best way for us to get in touch about your application and/or decision.

If you've opted to view your statements online (instead of receiving one in the post), we'll use your email address to send notifications to let you know that your statement is now available in Warehouse Money Connect to view.   We won’t send your actual statement via email. 

To view your current and previous statements online, just log into Warehouse Money Connect.

Why do you need to know my friend or relative's phone number?

If we need to speak with you urgently but can’t get hold of you, we'll phone your friend or relative to ask how we can get in touch with you.  Rest assured that we won't talk about your account with your friend or relative.

Why do you need to know what my income is?

We need to know what your income is and what your regular expenses are so that we can assess your application and determine your credit limit. Also as a responsible lender we need to make sure that by having one of our credit cards you can afford to make repayments on a credit card.

Why was my application declined?

There are various reasons why your application for a credit card was declined.   It could be because of your credit history, income, high expenses, or other debts you may have. 

As a responsible lender we need to make sure that by having one of our credit cards you can afford to make repayments on a credit card. 

If your application is unsuccessful, you're welcome to apply again after 6 months and we'll assess your application then.
